"Craniosacral Therapy helps your body release the effects of held life experiences."

  • Sessions last 60 minutes.

  • Before the treatment begins, you will be asked to participate in a friendly assessment so that your practitioner can ascertain your personal reasons for the visit as well as determine how best to treat you.

  • During the treatment itself, you will remain fully clothed. Usually, you will laying down, face up, but your practitioner may ask you to lay on your side or to be seated.

  • The setting will be quiet and peaceful.

  • Once in position, your practitioner will make light contact with your head, the base of your spine or other areas. They will ‘listen’ to your body’s rhythm and apply gentle manipulations where necessary.

  • Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a very gentle, non-invasive treatment that works with the body’s natural rhythms to enhance its intrinsic ability to restore and heal itself.

  • It’s based upon the research of Dr William Sutherland, a cranial osteopath, who discovered that the fibrous joints of the skull move subtly and ‘breathe’. CST was later developed by John Upledger.

  • CST recognises that the whole body ‘breathes’ in a gentle, rhythmic motion and its breath is connected to our vitality. Every negative experience we face, whether it be injury, illness, stress or trauma, disturbs our body’s rhythmic motion.

  • Practitioners of CST use gentle touch to the head (cranium), tail bone (sacrum) and other body parts as appropriate, to resolve disturbances, release tension and encourage the body to return to its natural flow of health.

The Craniosacral Therapy Association says: These are some of the words and phrases that people have used to describe their experience of Craniosacral Therapy: “Comforting, inner peace, a sense of relief, deep stillness and relaxation, connection, feeling accepted, feeling more fully alive, put back in one piece, feeling whole again”.
